Christmas Countdown: 25 Days to Go!
Well, it’s the 1st of December and we’ve officially entered my FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR! As part of our countdown to Christmas, I thought it’d be fun to post a classic Christmas commercial every day until Christmas Day (and maybe a few days after) to get us all into the holiday spirit.
Today’s kick-off comes to us courtesy of McDonald’s, and hearkens back to a time when McDonald’s could pull off a tear-jerker of an ad with a focus on kids. This ad from 1975 does a really nice job of respecting the myths of Christmas, and gives parents a nice little “this is why we do it” message. And plus … oh yeah … it also does a nice job of selling McDonald’s gift certificates. It’s a great example of the power of storytelling in a purely visual form — you can watch this ad without sound and you get 100% of the communication (which, BTW, is the way you should review all TV creative: Always ask the question “…can I understand the selling idea of this commercial with the sound off?”).
All-in-all — 60 seconds of magic which are simply unforgettable. Merry Christmas!
